JP CrossFit – Community Warm-up (No Measure) Marsha P. Johnson was a Black trans woman who is credited with starting the Stonewall Riots after police raided the gay bar Stonewall Inn. Her bravery in the face of oppression ignited subsequent LGBTQ political activism and is generally considered the start of the modern LGBTQ rights movement. Johnson, along with fellow trans activist Sylvia Rivera, founded STAR, an organization dedicated to helping LGBTQ youth find food, housing, and general safety from violence, especially those who were not able to access gay-oriented resources due to their gender identity or presentation. She was also a part of the Gay Liberation Front which sought to protect citizens against oppressive and discriminatory laws based on sexual orientation.
